Albany Technical College Holds Fall National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Induction Ceremony on Tuesday Evening

Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College will hold the annual Fall National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the George Kirkland Conference Center. Sixteen Albany Tech students will be inducted this fall. In order to qualify for induction into the NTHS, students must meet the following requirements: be enrolled at Albany Tech; have completed two consecutive semesters of course work, a minimum of 18 credit hours; hold at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) overall; exemplify the personal qualities of an honor student (safety conscious, works well with others, dependable, trustworthy, responsible, honest, takes pride in work, exhibits good citizenship, and make a neat and clean appearance); and maintain the required grade average to remain a member of the organization.

Keynote speaker for the evening will be Dr. Anthony O. Parker, Albany Technical College President. Serving as the college president since 1995, Parker is the former Vice President of Student Services for Aiken Technical College in Aiken, South Carolina and Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, Georgia. In July 2005, he assumed the duties of interim Assistant Commissioner of Adult Literacy for the Technical College System of Georgia in Atlanta, serving from July 1, 2005 through April 1, 2006.

Since Parker’s arrival, Albany Tech has completed a capital campaign, doubled enrollment, and taken responsibility for adult literacy. New facilities have also been constructed or renovated on the Dougherty County campus and a learning center built in Randolph County. Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from South Carolina State University. He received a specialist in education degree in Educational Administration from Augusta College and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Educational Management at the Harvard University Graduate School. He graduated from the Executive Leadership Institute at the League for Innovation in the Community College and also served as a faculty member on four occasions.

Albany Tech NTHS President, Hattie Ford, will provide opening remarks and Albany Tech Alumni and member of the NTHS Board of Directors, James L. Shaw, Jr., will provide the pledge/charge to the new inductees. Five Albany Tech NTHS members will officiate for the Candlelight Ceremony, a tradition of NTHS induction.
