Star Business of the Week
By: Mary Bickerstaff
The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes the Dougherty County Public Library as this week’s Star Business of the Week. Though not a traditional business, DCPL serves as a vital community resource, providing access to information, technology, and lifelong learning for residents of all ages. With multiple branches throughout the county and a dedicated team of staff, the library offers public programs, digital resources, computer access, literacy initiatives, and youth engagement activities. One of the library’s most impactful services is its participation in the PINES network, which allows patrons to request and borrow materials from other Georgia libraries without leaving Dougherty County. A dedicated courier system ensures that books and resources are efficiently delivered to meet each patron’s needs. The library is also expanding its reach with an upcoming mobile book unit to serve areas without library access. Additionally, they offer fun, borrowable items like bocce ball, Connect Four, and other outdoor games. Patrons can also check out free Wi-Fi hotspots, download e-books and audiobooks, and access a variety of digital platforms. Their commitment to community, education, and equity is evident in every service they offer. The Albany Area Chamber celebrates the Dougherty County Public Library for their innovation, mission-minded service, and outstanding impact on the citizens of Albany and beyond.
The Albany Area Chamber Star Business of the Week is sponsored by our friends at WALB News 10 and Fleming & Riles Insurance. Treats were provided from Sugar Mama’s Bakery.
