Hiring Our Heros
The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce champions the U.S. Chamber’s “Hiring Our Heroes” program, acknowledging the vital role veterans and military families play in our community. With Albany’s distinction as a military community of excellence, we are home to over 15,000 veterans, active duty personnel and military families, all of whom enrich our community and workforce with their exceptional skills and dedication. To support this invaluable segment of our population, the Chamber offers access to a variety of resources:
- Hiring Events: Facilitating direct connections between the military community and leading employers.
- Fellowship Programs: Providing immersive experiences in the civilian workforce through six to twelve-week programs.
- Career Workshops: Offering educational sessions and networking opportunities to enhance career development.
- Digital Tools: Offering an innovative suite of digital tools for veterans, service members, military spouses, and employer, including resume writing, career roadmapping and veteran-friendly workplaces.
- For Employers: Make the transition from veteran friendly to veteran ready via the VET Employer Roadmap to help prepare, recruit and empower.
Education & Training
In Albany, military families have access to a supportive educational network that caters to their unique needs. The Dougherty County School System offers a range of programs that accommodate the schedules and circumstances of military families, ensuring that children receive a quality education regardless of their parents’ duties.
Albany State University (ASU) is committed to serving military-connected students through its Office of Military and Adult Education. ASU provides a supportive environment that fosters academic success, leading to degrees, certifications or licensure in high-demand fields. The university’s Veterans Student Success Center is a dedicated advocate for veterans, offering assistance and resources to ensure their academic and professional advancement.
Albany Technical College is known for its partnership with Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany through the SkillBridge program. This collaboration allows service members to gain hands-on experience and training in various technical fields, facilitating a smoother transition to civilian careers. Both ASU and Albany Technical College have been recognized as military-friendly institutions, highlighting their commitment to providing educational opportunities that support the goals and aspirations of military personnel and their families.
