Military Affairs Committee
Strengthening Support for the Marine Corps
The Albany Area Chamber’s long-standing Military Affairs Committee (MAC) is a vital force in fortifying Albany’s stature as a Military Community of Excellence. With a clear mission to develop a strategic plan for military community excellence, the committee works tirelessly to ensure that Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, its personnel and its families are fully supported. This includes addressing legislative needs that are crucial for the base’s operations and advocating for policies that benefit military personnel and their families. The committee’s efforts are instrumental in supporting smooth transitions for service members and providing a wealth of resources that cater to the unique needs of military families and veterans.
What We Do
As a dedicated resource for military families and veterans, the Military Affairs Committee actively engages with the military and business communities to foster strategic relationships and mutual support. This engagement is key to maintaining the long-term viability and sustainability of the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. By bringing together state and federal officials, industry leaders and key stakeholders, the committee provides essential tools and solutions that not only support the base’s current operations but also pave the way for future economic development strategies in the region. The committee’s work ensures that the value of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany as an economic driver and a defender of national security is recognized, preserved and enhanced.
The Military Affairs Committee also brings the community together through various events, including the renowned Salty Sandbagger Golf Tournament, established in 1974. This biannual annual event is a highlight for the military and civilian community alike, fostering camaraderie and friendly competition while also serving as a fundraiser to support the committee’s mission. The tournament is a testament to the committee’s commitment to engagement and support within the military community. It provides an enjoyable setting for networking, where service members, veterans, and community leaders can connect over a shared love for the game.
