The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church whose message is based on the Bible with ministry motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army offers 19 services to give a hand up, not a hand out. In 2017, the organization assisted more than 7,000 households, clothed 6,000 people, provided comfort kits to nearly 4,000 families and helped more than 200 families with utility assistance. The Salvation Army in Albany — an Albany Area Chamber 2018 Nonprofit of the Year nominee — serves nine area counties, including Dougherty.

The 2018 Small Business of the Year and 2018 Non-Profit of the Year will be announced at the 2018 Small Business and Non-Profit Awards Reception on Tuesday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Doublegate Country Club. Register for the event here.
