Go See! Tour at the Portia Holmes Shields Early Learning Center

The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce had the opportunity to tour this incredible facility and see firsthand how it is creating a safe, affordable, and engaging learning environment for children in our community.

We loved seeing the center’s focus on creative play and hands-on learning, with dedicated spaces for music, building blocks, outdoor activities, and more. Each classroom is supported by a teacher and paraprofessional, creating an environment where children can learn, explore, and grow.

The center also provides an extended day from 7:30 AM–5:00 PM, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, while incorporating important life skills into the Pre-K experience to help children transition successfully into higher grades.

Another exciting part of the center is the opportunity it provides for Albany State University students to gain real-world experience through education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and health and human performance programs.
