Public Policy

Albany Area Chamber Government & Legislative Affairs

As the largest business advocacy organization in Southwest Georgia, the Chamber serves as the lead advocate for business issues, representing those interests to local, state and federal elected leaders. The Chamber works closely with the City of Albany, the Dougherty County Commission, the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission, Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, Albany Technical College, Albany State University, the Georgia General Assembly and US congressional leaders in Washington, D.C.,  to ensure the interests of our business community are well represented in public policy decisions.

The Chamber provides opportunities for members to meet with elected officials through public policy forums, legislative receptions and legislative visits at the state capitol and the nation’s capital. Candidate forums and surveys are also developed throughout the year to better inform our elected leaders what the top concerns are in the business community.

While every effort is made to keep our members informed, for those seeking continual active engagement in public policy matters, the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee provides hands-on experience in helping to create an annual legislative agenda for the region and on the federal level. Every year, a delegation of Chamber members promotes the agenda through regular legislative visits to Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
