Chamber leadership to meet with federal officials March 20-21

Albany, Ga. – Community and business leaders are in the nation’s capital this week meeting with federal officials as part of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Washington D.C. Fly In,” an annual legislative event that brings together the community, the Marine Corps and members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation.

The Fly In is an Albany Area Chamber-led legislative advocacy initiative that allows for chamber and community leadership to discuss with members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation federal priorities of importance to Albany and the Albany Area and to Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.

“The ‘Washington D.C. Fly In’ is a valuable opportunity for our community to spend quality time with members of Congress to discuss the Albany Area’s advancements, opportunities and priorities, and allows our federal partners to share ideas and information with us,” said Bárbara Rivera Holmes, president and CEO of the Albany Area Chamber. “One of our long-standing priorities is strengthening and supporting Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, and our Fly In has been highly effective in advancing that cause.”

This year’s March 20-22 trip is an important relationship-strengthening and information-sharing vehicle with high-ranking Marine Corps leadership, with whom the local group will meet at the Pentagon to discuss the mission-critical needs of Albany’s base and its major tenant, Marine Corps Logistics Command. The group discusses the role and efforts of the Albany Area Chamber and community leadership in advocating and coordinating at the local, state and federal level on policies and initiatives that strengthen the installation and its long-term sustainability.

The chamber will host a reception Tuesday evening for the Congressional Delegation and Marine Corps leadership at the AT&T Forum. On Wednesday, the group will meet at the Pentagon with Marine leadership, and on Capitol Hill with U.S. Reps. Sanford Bishop and Austin Scott, and U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and David Perdue.

The Albany Area Chamber is represented at the state and federal levels by Cornerstone Government Affairs.

The 2018 Albany-Dougherty delegation includes the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce; the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission; Albany CEO; Albany Technical College; Albany State University; the city of Albany; Dougherty County; and the Dougherty County School System. The chamber’s legislative program is supported by these partners as well as the Albany Convention & Visitors Bureau, Georgia Power, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Procter & Gamble.
