Congratulations to Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center, Inc. (SOWEGA – AHEC), this week’s Albany Area Chamber Star Business.  (SOWEGA-AHEC) is a health professions workforce development nonprofit that recruits students into health profession careers, supports students enrolled in health professions programs, and provides continuing education for health professionals. Their mission is to expand the healthcare workforce in rural and underserved areas. SOWEGA-AHEC was established in 1990 as the third AHEC in the state. The Georgia Statewide AHEC Network includes six AHECs that cover all 159 counties and they are part of the National AHEC Organization with 300 locations in the US.
